NIH memo halts cancellation of medical research grants
Following two court rulings that challenged the Trump administration’s cancellation of medical research grants, a senior official at the National Institutes of Health has ordered a pause on further cancellations, at least temporarily.
The internal memo, sent June 24, marks a shift in agency policy. Since President Trump’s return to office, NIH has ended hundreds of research grants, part of a broader effort to reduce funding for projects focused on diversity and the health of sexual and gender minority groups.
It remains unclear how long the pause will remain in effect.
