ICYMI – A Recap of the NIGMS May 2025 Council Open Session

Dr. Jon Lorsch, NIGMS Director, gives an excellent presentation—and a strong justification for the IDeA program—beginning at 26:27 and ending around 49:25. Following his remarks, there are also thoughtful comments from Drs. Stephen Cutler and Ann West, who both serve on the Council.

Dr. Cutler, formerly of the University of Mississippi, is now Vice President for Economic Development and Dean of the College of Pharmacy at the University of South Carolina. Dr. West, who is at the University of Oklahoma, holds multiple titles: Associate Vice President for Research and Partnerships, Grayce B. Kerr Centennial Chair, E.K. Gaylord Presidential Professor, and COBRE Director.

Around the 50:00 mark, Dr. Lorsch states that he is the “biggest supporter and proselytizer for the IDeA program.”

Additionally, during the meeting, the Council approved an evaluation of the COBRE program.
