Federal judge orders NIH to restore multiple canceled grants
District Court Judge William Young ruled last Monday that cancelling research funded by the NIH based on certain topics is unlawful. The federal government was directed to make the funds available immediately.
The NIH issued directives terminating grants in February that related to LGBTQ issues; gender identity; and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
In response, multiple organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union, the American Public Health Association, Ibis Reproductive Health and others, sued to reverse the directives.
