NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine Visits University of North Dakota

On September 4, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine and Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) toured the University of North Dakota’s (UND) space related facilities. They also joined UND’s students, faculty, and staff in a town hall discussion.

UND started its Human Spaceflight Laboratory fifteen years ago and is the first university with a NASA-funded laboratory dedicated to designing and constructing space-exploration and planetary surface-exploration suits. The university is also the first to boast two fully operational spaceflight simulators.

“This is what I love about the University of North Dakota; the students are involved, they’re getting hands-on experience. When they graduate, it’s not just chemistry, calculus and physics, but it’s also real-world experience that they get to apply when they graduate whether they go to work for a contractor or go to work for NASA.”

Jim Bridenstine, NASA Administrator

UND also has NASA connections through the state’s NASA EPSCoR program and Space Grant program. In addition, NASA will also occasionally turn to universities to collaborate on different kinds of projects, including atmospheric research and development of spacesuits at UND.
