Brown University Awarded $53.4 Million from NIH to Innovate and Improve Dementia Care
Brown University will be partnering with Hebrew SeniorLife to lead the Imbedded Pragmatic Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia (AD/ADRD) Clinical Trials (IMPACT) Collaboratory. The IMPACT Collaboratory are funded by NIH’s National Institute on Aging (NIA) at a level expected to total $53.4 million over five years. Impact Collaboratory researchers will work with scientists from other universities to develop novel ways to care for those with AD/ADRD.
“There is a pressing need to improve care and support for people with dementia and their caregivers. The IMPACT Collaboratory will enable more effective, efficient teamwork research on finding better solutions for the millions of Americans affected by these devastating diseases.”
The Collaboratory will promote development of pragmatic clinical trials and will serve as a national resource for people with dementia and their caregivers. Testing care improvements in everyday settings both at home and care facilities will hopefully allow for broader and more diverse participation. The goal is to strengthen the applicability and implementation of research results in real-life settings.
“This award is designed to develop a research infrastructure that encourages pragmatic trials of innovative dementia care, develops best practices for conducting these types of trials, and shares knowledge among researchers and health systems, with the overall goal of improving care for people with dementia and their caregivers.”
