Michael Amiridis Named New President of University of South Carolina

The University of South Carolina welcomes President-elect Michael Amiridis, who will serve as the 30th president of UofSC starting this summer.

The move is a homecoming for Amiridis, who spent more than two decades on campus in Columbia, serving as a chemical engineering professor (beginning in 1994), department chair (2002-2006), dean of the College of Engineering and Computing (2006-2009) and the university's executive vice president for academic affairs and provost. He has been the chancellor of the University of Illinois-Chicago since 2015. Amiridis has had long-time ties to NSF having earned an NSF CAREER award in 1999 and serving as a Co-PI of the SC EPSCoR Track-1 grant from 2004-2009.
