RHODE ISLAND: EPSCoR undergrads use satellites, buoys to predict ecological change in Narragansett Bay
Brown University
This summer, Rhode Island NSF EPSCoR undergrads from Brown University, Daniel Wexler and Lorenzo Davidson, utilized computer algorithms they developed to analyze satellite images to detect salinity and chlorophyll levels of the bay. Their ultimate goal is to augment the Ocean State Ocean Model, a complex computer model, to take into account salinity and chlorophyll levels to aid researchers in understanding past and future shifts in Narragansett Bay’s changing ecosystems due to climate change.
