Alaska INBRE BLaST scholar Michelle Ramirez, sophomore at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, recently attended the Regional Alliance of INBRE Networks (RAIN) microbiome summer research Bootcamp in Reno, Nevada. The Bootcamp is a 2.5-week program in which students learn to extract DNA from human fecal samples, perform PCR sample prep, and run an agarose gel electrophoresis. Students also learn Linux and R-coding to analyze data.
