A shell collection that began with teenage diving adventures in 1960s Guam has returned to the island, offering a snapshot of marine life from decades past that could help scientists understand how the underwater world has changed.

Warren B. Carah, now a retired author and engineer, recently donated about 4,000 shells to the University of Guam’s biorepository, many of which he collected as a high school student exploring Guam’s reefs and beaches more than 60 years ago, according to a recent news release from the university.
