Vice Chancellor for Research, University of Alaska Fairbanks
Dr. Laura Conner, Ph.D., is the Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). She was appointed to the position in April 2025 after briefly serving as interim vice chancellor. Prior to her current position, she most recently served as Associate Director of the Geophysical Institute and research professor. She has a doctorate in ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of Arizona. Her work since earning her doctorate in 2007 has focused on education research, including science identity and interdisciplinary learning at the boundary of art and science. At UAF, she has led or co-led over $58 million in funding from NSF, NASA and the Department of Education. Dr. Conner's work includes leadership of the NSF-funded GK-12 CASE program, which has trained and provided financial support to over 40 graduate students. She has held several leadership roles at UAF, including faculty fellow for dual enrollment and the University of the Arctic Assembly representative for the university.
Conner has led many externally funded initiatives for youth and teachers, both inside and outside the classroom. She holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona.
