SOUTH CAROLINA: Research Spotlight - Meet SC INBRE Student Leanissa Swinton
Columbia College freshman Leanissa Swinton is gaining hands-on biomedical research experience through SC INBRE while studying whether GDSL lipase, a protein found in pitcher plant digestive fluid, can break down oxidized LDL associated with plaque buildup in arteries. Through the program, Swinton has learned laboratory techniques including lipase assays, NMR and data analysis while building confidence as a young researcher.
