Student researchers and program leaders from NIH Institutional Development Award (IDeA) states traveled to Washington, D.C., in June for the 2026 Take Your IDeA Science to Capitol Hill event, where they met with congressional offices to share how the NIH IDeA program has shaped their research experiences and career aspirations.

Hosted in partnership by the EPSCoR/IDeA Foundation, the National Association of IDeA Principal Investigators, and Van Scoyoc Associates, the event also provided advocacy training to help students effectively communicate why the IDeA program is so important to themselves, their careers, and their states, and more broadly, the importance of federally funded research.
